Sr. Mary Farley, a Grey Nun, served St. Vincent Hospital as business manager and accountant for 25 years, and was named hospital administrator in 1940. She was well-known throughout Toledo for her efforts to personally meet each patient at the hospital.
She was transferred from Toledo in 1944 to become procurator of her order; a Blade editorial said “one of Toledo’s most popular women is leaving a city whose heart she won by the spirit of her ministrations to all who entered the doors of St. Vincent Hospital.”
She returned to be administrator in 1951, but died of cancer in 1952. Photo above is from her funeral at Rosary Cathedral.

Imagine a hospital administrator, nowadays, trying to meet even one patient.
