Our Lady of the Angels Convent, Marywood

Above is a post card showing the chapel at Our Lady of the Angels convent, formerly located in Marywood beside the current St. Gaspar del Bufalo church.  Precious Blood sisters lived in the convent, located near Sorrowful Mother Shrine.  The building is still standing, but is privately owned.  Photo is from 1950.

St. Gaspar del Bufalo, Marywood

Built in 1884.

The church was originally known as St. Michael's, until several parishes were consolidated under the name St. Gaspar del Bufalo (founder of the Precious Blood order.)

Marywood is also referred to as "Frank," as that was the original name of the area.

This church is very close to the Sorrowful Mother Shrine in Bellevue.

St. Gasper Cemetery, Marywood

Precious Blood Mission Center at Thompson

In 1845, the Precious Blood Order started a mission center at Thompson (now Marywood). From this center, parishes in the following counties were served: Seneca, Huron, Crawford, Sandusky, Richland, Erie, Lorain, Stark, Medina, and Portage. Sisters, Brothers and Priests who served from the center are buried in the St. Gasper parish cemetery at Marywood.

St. Gaspar del Bufalo, Marywood

Click on the picture and look at the details. Check out the brick work around the main window, the hang over on the sides, and the would-be windows on the steeple. I love this church. It's not too far from me so i hope to get out there soon and photograph the hell out of it.
Two Photos provided by Ben Russell...I stitched them together.
