Marywood / Frank, Ohio 1942

Post card from 1942 shows current St. Gaspar del Bufalo church (then St. Michael) in Marywood, along with the former Precious Blood convent (now privately owned, but in disrepair.)

Just FYI, there's a new German restaurant / pub a few miles away from St. Gaspar's, the Bierkeller.

Built in 1884.

The church was originally known as St. Michael's, until several parishes were consolidated under the name St. Gaspar del Bufalo (founder of the Precious Blood order.)

Marywood is also referred to as "Frank," as that was the original name of the area.

This church is very close to the Sorrowful Mother Shrine in Bellevue.

St. Gaspar

This church is closer to me than i think it is. The next nice day I have off i Believe i will try to get inside and explore. It was locked the day i visited. I don't know anyone here, so i didn't go up to the rectory to ask.

I just can't get enough of the spire! This is one church I long to go belfry climbing in.

The brickwork is also very good.

This building is what i believe to have been a school or workshop maybe. Currently it is used for storage. In the next picture you can see how poor of shape the building is in. Everything is very old on the grounds here. It's very nice to see such things.

That building may also have had something to do with the large building next door (which I'll get to on the next post)

Click on the picture and look at the details. Check out the brick work around the main window, the hang over on the sides, and the would-be windows on the steeple. I love this church. It's not too far from me so i hope to get out there soon and photograph the hell out of it.
