Immaculate Conception, Bellevue

An interesting postcard, showing the location of the previous church at the rear of the school.  Uncertain of date; the school was built in the 1920s, and the new church was built in 1964.

Immaculate Conception, Raab

Photos from "Souvenir of the Dedication of the Immaculate Conception Church, Raab, Ohio, May 17th, 1925." The previous church was destroyed by a tornado ("cyclone") on March 21, 1920. Bishop Samuel Stritch was present for the dedication.

The booklet lists the contributions from each parish in the diocese, and adds, "It should be noted here that after the cyclone in 1920, when sight-seers were numerous in Raab, on several Sundays collections were taken up amongst them . . . " Another article about the tornado can be viewed HERE.

Raab was later known as Marygrove, and is now a part of Holy Trinity parish in Assumption.

Immaculate Conception, Bettsville

From 1875 to 1897, the mission church of Immaculate Conception served the village of Bettsville (on the right in above photo, at the intersection of King and Thomas Streets). It was attended by priests from Fostoria and Millersville. The congregation dwindled, and the building was sold sometime after 1900, when it was used as a social hall. The building was torn down before 1920.

Immaculate Conception, Deshler

The parish's second church building, used from 1898 - 1962. At the time, it was one of the smallest churches in the diocese, according to Mossing's history.

Immaculate Conception, Old South End

Since the regrettable incident with the painted stations at St. Francis de Sales, I consider these the finest set in Toledo. More pictures on Wednesday, along with the results of tomorrow's photo shoot in Lima.

A Seldom Seen View at Immaculate Conception, Old South End

In fact, unless there's some problem with the bells, it's only seen by one person, twice a year. Only seen that often because someone has to change the time on the mechanism that rings the bells whenever daylight savings time comes and goes.
In the outer part of the rose window are sixteen faces of cherubs, seemingly all different.
The pictures aren't very good since they were taken while I was in a very uncomfortable position half in and half out of an opening in the wall that supports the organ pipes.
Worth it, but I wouldn't want to do it again.
