Stations of the Cross, St. Wendelin

These large paintings of the Stations of the Cross date from the early 1900s, from the previous St. Wendelin church in Fostoria.

Veronica wipes the face of Jesus. Mary is in the upper right background.

Jesus Falls the Third Time. Note the two prisoners in the background; I'm assuming they are the two thieves.

Daprato Stations of the Cross

Several churches within the Diocese of Toledo have a set of the plaster Stations of the Cross by Daprato studios in Chicago. (Offhand, the basement church of Our Lady of Consolation in Carey, the outdoor Stations of the Cross at Sorrowful Mother Shrine in Bellevue, and St. Patrick in Bascom -- I'm sure there are others.) When one sees them often, it's easy to overlook details; for example, the small child gathering nails for the crucifixion above.

Daprato is now called Daprato Rigali Studios -- visit their website HERE.

Our Lady of Consolation Shrine Park, Carey

According to a history of the shrine, the Stations of the Cross in the Shrine Park are from Italy, and were dedicated in 1939. They were re-bronzed recently.

Note the soldier threatening Simon of Cyrene.

Veronica wipes the face of Jesus.

Jesus falls the second time. (Note how He is almost falling out of the boundaries of the sculpture.)
