The Catholic Photographer

Click HERE to see a gallery of 80 photos of Rosary Cathedral in Toledo, taken by Bob Mullen, "The Catholic Photographer" of Vernon, CT.  Especially good: photos of Jan de Rosen's murals in the side aisles.  There are photos of many other churches as well.

A De Rosen Sketch for Rosary Cathedral

While doing an occasional eBay search for local church images, I was amazed to find a sketch by John De Rosen from his work for Rosary Cathedral in Toledo, from 1944.  Shown above is the gouache rendering for a side-aisle ceiling mural of the fifth Joyful Mystery of the Rosary, the finding of the Child Jesus in the Temple.  You can view the full listing HERE.  Many thanks to the seller for this image.

Pews in Progress

Pictured above, pews for Rosary Cathedral carved by German native Bruno Weber, at his Columbus home and studio in 1931.

Weber’s work can also be seen at Detroit’s Assumption Grotto parish – click HERE – and at St. Joseph’s in Tiffin.

Many thanks to Weber’s grandson John Rees for sharing the photo.

Rosary Cathedral, as it might have been

Some pictures of one of the earlier plans, scanned from Chronicle of the Cathedral Chapel Parish; Vol. 2, Number 1, which was apparently printed in 1920.
