St. Francis de Sales

Toledo's first cathedral, from 1910 to 1940. St Francis de Sales was completed in 1869 from plans by Patrick Keely of New York. Keely designed more than four hundred churches in his career. Though the parish is closed, St. Francis de Sales is used as a chapel for the Downtown business district, offering weekday Masses at 12:15 PM. Don't let the simple exterior fool you, the interior is incredible. I'll post more about it as time goes on.

As I recall, the interior is very ornate.

Yet today, "church" is regularly being held regularly in what one could only call arenas...

Where is the attention to the painstaking detail that used to be the hallmark of places of worship?

Like most things that were thrown out in the general euphoria of sixties "progress", it's coming back. There are a lot of beautiful churches being built these days, the barn type is being remodeled, and the "oh-so-up-to-date" is looking tired and old-fashioned.
