Drat!

Just not feeling up to blogging this afternoon.

What Part Of Obedience...

...does Fr. Leyland not understand? The man needs to shut up and stop stirring up trouble. He, and his parishioners, should be ashamed of themselves.

St. Paul, Norwalk

I'll be posting pictures and comments tomorrow. I'm still trying to find a polite way to express my opinion. I'm not succeeding.

Good Shepherd

Why do people assume any building with a dome is a mosque? That's a very new trend.

Immaculate Conception, Old South End, Toledo

Something interesting was pointed out, to me, recently. I had a close look and realized it's true. That rose window is as big as a two story house.

The Man's Amazing!

( Photo liberated from the parish directory. )

There was an interesting surprise, at Mass, this morning. We had special music; a chanted and sung Mass in Honor of the Holy Spirit, composed by our own pastor, Father Paul Kwiatkowski. I knew he's been a violinist for the Perrysburg ( Right across the river. ) Symphony for years, but I hadn't expected this. The Mass was written in 1974, but if I hadn't seen the copyright date, I'd never have guessed. Those spots where the Gregorian influence breaks though are more in keeping with our own time. I thought it was fantastic.
For your information, Father Paul also teaches Latin, part time, at Central Catholic High School, and was ordained right under St. Peter's Chair, at the Vatican. He always has another surprise in store.
Remember, now, this isn't a Tridentine preserve, either, just the average, middle of the road parish, with a good priest.

St. Francis, by Ribera.

Lourdes College, Sylvania

The roofline's a bit bleak, but those arches are fantastic. The mosaics overdo the Franciscan brown, a bit, but are well done, otherwise.

I'm not, usually, fond of this sort of thing, but it's really not bad.

Your Guess Is As Good As Mine

Be Careful What You Pray For

A while back, I made the mistake of praying for a boring life. I did this while remembering the old Chinese curse, "may you live in interesting times". Let's just say I've led a very interesting life.
I didn't reckon with the fact that God has a sense of humor. If you don't agree, just look at an aardvark and read the Book of Jonah.
Suffice it to say, He answered the prayer by making my life more interesting than ever, but the vast majority of the new and interesting events are incredibly good.
I'm sorry for the sporadic posting and hope we'll get a bit more regular, soon. I'll also be catching up on my e-mails within the next couple days. Thank you all for bearing with me.

Never underestimate how much grime builds up, on the surface of a building, over the course of a few decades. It was worse in the days of heavy industry and steam locomotives.
