A Little Country Church in Iowa

Rick Roder, who has written a booklet on devotion to Our Lady of Luxembourg (including the shrine at Carey), emailed a photo of his parish church in Remsen, Iowa. Wow!

It's magnificent, but after looking at the website I'm trying to figure out what in blazes a "Happy Siesta Chapel" might be.

Jeffrey...you're probably better off just not knowing...

I was hoping it wasn't a commentary on the homilies ...

When she was in her 90's, my Aunt Rose spent several years in a nursing home. Her favorite activity was planning and executing escape attempts. With a name like Happy Siesta I'd do the same.

It was in Southern California, so there weren't many rivers. She didn't have Alzheimer's. She was just bored and enjoyed causing a ruckus. They'd usually track her down in one of the local restaurants or ice cream parlors.

(GASP!!!) ... now THAT'S a little country church! For anyone who hasn't, take a look at that "Ohio Cross-Topped Churches" website, and marvel at some of the little country churches in the southwest corner of Ohio. These little bitty towns that are barely on the map, somehow seem to have so many wonderful treasures to their credit. On the recent church tour, I was so delighted to see how well-restored and well-maintained those little country churches were; it was obvious they were still cared about and better kept than alot of urban churches.

Jeffrey, what a whimsical story about your aunt! She must have kept them on their toes!

It would have been far worse if Aunt Lena had ever been in such a place. I won't even contemplate what Aunt Anna ( AKA Toots ) would have managed. Aunt Rose was one of the less eccentric aunts.
