Yes, this is the one that was torn down. I have a lot of family history at St. Wendelin. For one it's my dad's home parish having gone to school there grades 1-8. My parents were married in that very church as well.

It was torn down in 1993 and the new church was built a block north on the other side of the street. There were a lot of different reasons for it. The old church was in a state of disrepair and many just wanted a new church. It's sad that the place that my parents were married is now a parking lot, but the new church is very nice in my opinion.

They salvaged many different elements from the old church to be used in the new one. For example, the copper domes on the towers of the old church are on top of the new church. The old stations of the cross as well as the statues of Mary and Joseph from the old church are now in the new church.

The new church is a neat building in my opinion. I love the way it's laid out. First you walk in and they have a huge gathering space if you want to chit chat after Mass. Then in the chruch they have a very nice baptimal font and pool with flowing water. It features a sloping floor to create a subtle stadium-style seating effect. The pipe organ is awesome as well.

Put it this way....at least St. Wendelin chose to built a new church rather than totally mangle the old church like some parishes have (I'm not mentioning names).

Hopefully if we have enough time we will be able to go there during the church tour.

I am convinced that St. Wendelin is one of the best modern churches in the diocese. Findlay St. Michael comes in first. That church is absolutely magnificent.
