Sts. Peter and Paul, Old South End
These pictures were taken in the 1960's and, I'm happy to say, there hasn't been much of a change. The stencilling's been painted over, the pulpit lowered, and the side altars simplified a bit, but overall, it's substantially intact. The main altar is an exceptional piece. I'll post a closer view of it tomorrow.

Delayed
I had ISP problems today, which ruined the catching up I had planned. Wait till you see the pictures I have ready for tomorrow.

St. Mary, Norwalk
I hope everyone at St. Mary's is duly appreciative. Have a look at Alex Fries' NEW PROJECT. Do you have any idea how few small parishes have something like this?

A Few Quick Posts
Things are starting to settle down, comparatively. I'll be able to get back on schedule, shortly.

Right On Target!
Have a look at Annunciations of a New Springtime. There's an excellent post on the "superstar cult" surrounding God's Vicar on Earth. It includes a quote that's amazingly perceptive, from the parish priest of Pentling, in Bavaria. "The Pope at eighty is in excellent form because he feels that he is loved."
Doesn't that say it all. He came from a position where, by merely doing his job, he was hated by far too many. He got to show his true colors and look what happened. Someone has said the people came to see John Paul, but they come to HEAR Benedict. That's true. John Paul prepared the way, by being loved for his personality. He prepared everyone to listen to the message delivered by his successor. People have come to love Benedict for himself, but they've also started loving the message he brings. That fact gives great hope for the future.
By the way, I know just how he feels. Why do you think I'm in such fine form?
The picture was shamelessly lifted from Servant and Steward. Go see the others!

Elsewhere in Ohio
There's a good post on St. Mary's, German Village, Columbus, at Leave Your Head at the Door. Beautiful design.
Portiuncula Shrine, Lourdes College, Sylvania
This is absolutely magnificent. I'm not even going to comment, because I can't think of enough superlatives to describe the thing. It was built in 1936, by the way.
Every Catholic in the Toledo Diocese needs to realize just how much of a treasure trove of ecclesiastical design we have, all over the area.

This day is officially out of control
I'll have time to post tomorrow, once the cavalry charges and aerial bombardment settles down.

Show of Hands
This song has an important message for the Church, and all countries, not just England.
Fr. Hannin of St. Patrick's
I posted, back in February, about Father Hannin's work in designing St. Patrick's. You'll find the post HERE. Kevin Hammer has found a picture of him, from Men of Northwest Ohio, published in 1898.

The Wave of the Future
La métamorphose d'un autel

All over the world, more and more Catholics are realizing that it's an altar, not a picnic table, and that we're talking to God, not one another.

St. Joseph, Monroeville
Completely different. I've never seen anything quite like it. Let's start with that odd tower with the even odder finial. Then, the round windows on the first floor. Those abnormally high dormers. It breaks a lot of rules, but it works. Like a strong spice, it's very differentness makes it a significant landmark.
