The First Station is the work of Dick Ottenweller (RIP), village blacksmith in Leipsic, and the Bishop's cousin. Dick was a civilian employee of the Navy in the Canal Zone during WWII, where he met a liturgical artist named Klemens Schmitt. They began collaborating after the war; Dick had a variety of Mr. Schmitt's designs which he could make in desired sizes in wrought iron.
