Leeper-Geddes House, Old West End

This was used as the bishop's residence, until the present building was finished.

  1. If the bishop doesn't want it, I'll take it.

  2. Actually this was the Bishop's home long after Cathedral's rectory was completed.

Bishop Donovan lived there while he served as head of the diocese. It was sold by his successor Bishop Hoffman who moved to the Cathedral rectory.

Cathedral's rectory was pretty full back in the 50's, 60's and early 70's. Msgr. Smith was the pastor for many of those years and usually had 3 or 4 parish priests (including then Fr. Hoffman) also living in the rectory.

In 1971 I delivered the morning paper, The Toledo Times to Bishop Donovan's residence. The old west end was my route and delivered before my school day began at Rosary Cathedral.

    The Bishop's staff tipped well.

  3. Thank you. I hadn't realized it was used that long.
