St. Wendelin, Fostoria

Photo of the interior of the previous St. Wendelin's church. Not sure about the date, but the Christmas trees are a clue.

  1. those lights must have been popular in the 50's...That's when St. Mary's got theirs, and Sacred Heart in Bethlehem also has the same kind

  2. Oh, for crying out loud. Those are the old aluminum Christmas trees. Always hated them.

  4. Well, to be really cool, the trees should have the Color Wheel accessory as well:

  5. Haven't seen one since the early 70's, though the New York yuppies dug them out of the trash heap of history for a while.
They were part of making Christmas a businessman's dream. Ringing cash registers instead of silver bells. ( Yes, Alex. Cash registers used to ring rather than beep. )

  6. I suppose the aluminum trees kind of fix the date. I would have guessed about a decade earlier from the women's hats and the unvarying overcoats on the men.

  7. 50's then? I know they had the trees in the early 60's, but don't know when they started making them.

  9. Aaaaghhh ... I can date that photo to right around 1963, give or take a year. My grandfather had one of those gawdawful trees on his front porch ... complete with the color wheel. Bleccch!! You never heard of those, Alex? Ask your mudda and fadda!

  11. This is when Churches were Churches. Not like the modern, cold buildings some call "churches" of today. Is there anyone out there who graduated in 69-70, from either SWHS or FHS? Has anyone heard or know of Sr. Neuzill who lived on Susan Dr.? thanks for any info..
