St. Patrick's of Heatherdowns

There's just one thing I can say. Would someone please tell me this was taken while they were repainting?
The basic design's good, but where are the elements that would show it to be Catholic?

  1. You're right -- it certainly could serve as a Southern Baptist or pentacostal church, and no one would be the wiser.

  2. I used to attend St. Pat's. This has always been the color scheme. White against the Irish green carpet.

  3. White and green are fine. The complete lack of any sign of Catholic identity is disgusting. A crucifix, at least? Any parish that looks like a Southern Baptist "worship space" is doing something very, very wrong.

  4. I used to attend St. Pat's when I lived in South Toledo.

Usually immediately above the altar there is a large statue of Jesus with his hands up-reached, as if towards heaven.

From the Linens in the rear of the choir space (that appear purple) this picture might have been taken during the Lenten season, which makes sense, as the statue of Jesus was always removed during lent.

Also, it doesn't appear in this picture, but flanking each side are wonderful statues of Mary and Joseph

  5. If they used a crucifix, like they're supposed to, they wouldn't have to remove it. This is one parish that's in drastic need of joining the 21st century. The 70's are over.

  6. That picture doesn't do the church justice. There are usually several planter boxes on the 1/2 brick wall with ivy that goes down the wall. There are also beautiful statues of Mary and Joseph in shrines on the sides where the picture is cut off. In addition, there is a huge crucifix - again you cannot see that in the picture. The sancutary is simplified big time because of Lent in this picture. The church also has a beautiful Blessed Sacrament Chapel. The parish is very large with a lot going on. I've gone many times to Mass there because the people participate very well and the music is incredible.
