A tribute to the treasure trove of ecclesiastical art and architecture in the Diocese of Toledo.

Good Shepherd, East Toledo
The dome contains sixteen windows, each with an apparently life-sized saint. The state of preservation, for the plaster, murals, and stencilling, is downright uncanny.
The Toledo Diocese is uncommonly well stocked with domes. Back in western Pennsylvania, I can't recall a single domed Catholic church between Pittsburgh and Altoona.

ReplyDeletePittsburgh has several and Altoona one.
ReplyDeleteI wonder if it could be an influence from Chicago, where they're called "Polish cathedral style"?
